Sprint and the NFL announced the launch of NFL Mobile Live, a new application promising Sprint subscribers wireless access to live radio broadcasts of all 2008 regular season games as well as all eight Thursday Night games broadcast via cable television’s NFL Network.

Glu Mobile (NSDQ: GLUU) reported its second-quarter earnings today, saying that it hit a record-high for revenue of $23.7 million, a 45% increase from the year-ago period when it recorded $16.4 million in revenue.
“We achieved record revenue driven by solid results in parts of Europe and better than expected performance in China, despite a softening in the US market,” said Greg Ballard, president and chief executive officer, Glu. “New partnerships with Activision, Sony Pictures Television International, Sega and FremantleMedia Enterprises contribute to our exciting second half lineup, which will be our most active publishing period ever.”

Treemo, a Seattle-based mobile social network, announced today that it has been added to the T-Mobile deck, in addition to AT&T and Cricket Mobile. Treemo said the social network, which is most commonly used by teens to upload and comment on photos, is now also available as a Web app on the iPhone and has been redesigned.

Sony Ericsson announced today that it will release a limited-edition C902 Cybershot phone, as used by 007 in the latest Bond film, Quantum Of Solace. The phone, as used by James Bond - played by actor Daniel Craig in the new film - will be available for a limited period and include a memory card loaded with a host of 007 content.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a proposed bill that would ban using cellular phones for voice calls during flights in the U.S. on Thursday. Now that the bill, named the Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace (HANG UP) Act, has made this step, its next step is to go before the U.S. House of Representatives. It would need to be approved by the House, the Senate, and be signed into law by the President before it could be final.

If you’re not an AT&T wireless customer here in the states, and you’re hoping the iPhone is coming, you’re going to have to wait another year, at least.
According to an article in the USA Today yesterday, AT&T (NYSE: T) added another year on its exclusive distribution deal with Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) for the iPhone, bringing the agreement into 2010.
The article does a good job explaining the Apple-AT&T relationship and how AT&T’s risky move a few years ago to lock-up exclusive distribution of the iPhone has paid off handsomely.

I was talking to a well known Bay Area VC this week and he asked me why a company like Capcom Mobile would have Movaya run their e-commerce site for them rather than do this themselves.
I was somewhat surprised by the question because I assumed that he (as well as every other VC) naturally knew that a large percentage of companies use hosted services rather than run the back-end infrastructure in-house. I mentioned that huge software companies like Microsoft and Symantec outsource some or all of their digital delivery to folks like Digital River (NASDAQ: DRIV).
